Ventisquero Grey Gran Reserva Carmenère is a wood-aged red wine made with the Carmenère variety by Viña Ventisquero in Maipo Valley, in Chile’s Central Valley.
Viña Ventisquero is run by Felipe Tesso, a winemaker who has immersed himself in studying the different types of soil on his estates in the Maipo Valley, Casablanca Valley and Apalta Valley. With his team, who are both young and experienced, he produces new generation, authentically Chilean wines that are recognised by experts in every corner of the world.
Ventisquero Grey Gran Reserva Carmenère comes from vineyards located in the Maipo Valley on alluvial origin soils with good rooting, porosity and drainage. The vines are cultivated using traditional agriculture and ecological measures to reduce CO2 emissions. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.
In the winery, only half of the Ventisquero Grey Gran Reserva Carmenère grapes are destemmed and a pre-fermentation maceration takes place at about 8ºC for 5 days. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 22 and 26ºC for about 32 days. The wine is then aged in new, second and third year French extra fine grain oak barrels for 18 months. Finally, it rests in the bottle for 8 months before being sold.
Made by one of the best winemakers in Chile, Ventisquero Grey Gran Reserva Carmenère is an outstanding red wine. A voluptuous Carmenère that showcases an exquisite terroir and has great aging potential.
