About Venus La Universal

Venus La Universal is a red wine produced by the winery Venus La Universal in Falset, within the DO Montsant.

Venus La Universal is the winery of Sara Pérez and René Barbier. Trained in their respective family wineries in Priorat (Clos Martinet and Clos Mogador), they embarked on this professional and life project in Montsant in 1999.

La Universal is the small 4-hectare plot where Sara and René's wines are born. Through organic farming, with utmost respect for the environment, optimizing energy and resources throughout the production processes, they conceive wines with great character, true to the terroir from which they originate.

Venus La Universal is crafted from cariñena and garnacha from a vineyard situated atop a hillside with both northern and southern exposures. The soils are clay-limestone, deep, and moist.

The harvest is manual. All varieties ferment together, if the vintage allows. Whole grapes and some garnacha stems. Fermentation occurs with wild yeasts, with a gentle pigeage (cap submersion). Maceration lasts 28-32 days in wooden vats and open 500-litre barrels. Venus La Universal undergoes several years of ageing before being bottled.

2019 Venus La Universal 2019 is a red wine with a nose of fruity aromas over a mineral background alongside subtle spicy notes. On the palate it is concentrated and meaty, with evolving tannins and a seductive fruity character. A powerful but elegant red wine, with a velvety mid-palate. It is long-lasting and flavoursome, and for that reason it is considered to be one of the best Montsant reds.
2017

Venus "La universal" 2017 is a concentrated red wine with an intense nose of ripe red and black fruit, mineral notes and spiced hints. On the palate it’s enveloping, fresh and elegant. A medium-bodied wine which is powerful and balanced at the same time. The finish is lingering and persistent.
2015 Venus "La Universal" 2015 is a concentrated red wine with fruity aromas of ripe black fruit, spicy notes and mineral touches. On the palate it has a great balance of fruit, freshness and body.
2014 Venus La Universal 2014 is a juicy wine with body that is very expressive. This vintage reveals a great intensity on the nose, where the harmony between the aromas of red fruit, the spicy notes of the aging and the mineral notes of the terroir stand out. On the palate it is very balanced, tasty and seductive.
2011 Exhibiting a complex interplay of fruit and mineral characteristics, the wine is well-structured and possesses a dense mouthfeel. Remarkably fresh with excellent acidity, it culminates in an enduring finish.

The wine displays a deep cherry hue with garnet nuances, complemented by an appealing tear.

It reveals balsamic nuances and berry fruit notes, melding a variety of varietal aromas with layered spicy sensations, all underpinned by a subtle hint of mint.
2010 Warming, enticing, fruity and mineral. Excellent structure, dense. Long and deep passage through the mouth, with a fresh acidity and a glyceric touch.

Cherry red colour, medium-high robe with a maroon rim. Slow and even falling tears show on the glass.

Very balsamic nose with lots of forest fruits. Ripe, appetising and jammy redcurrents and blackberries with spicy tones of cinnamon and nutmeg, sweet coffee and scrub.
2009 Embracing and warming. Reminiscences of fruit and minerals. Very good structure and density, pleasant freshness and acidity. Deep and long finish.

Cherry red with garnet touches. Medium robe and beautiful tear.

Notes of balsamic and wild fruits. Spicy touches with diverse undertones. A mineral base, lightly menthol.
2007 Large, bulky, full-bodied wine with a long and tasty mid palate and a silky texture. Its notes of ripe fruit are wrapped in creamy and fresh balsamic aromas. It shows a lively acidity and noticeable tannins. Very balanced red wine with a long finish and a good persistence.

Intense, bright cherry colour with maroon edges.

Intense and complex aromas with intense and expressive notes of black fruit which appear initially along with leather and toasted aromas. When it opens up, the fruit becomes more juicy and gets a touch of liquor. It is mixed with notes of sweet spices and scrubland. Elegant mineral background.
2005 Live and flavorful, with notes of red and black fruit (berries and currants), caramel cream, balsam leaf snuff, notes Infusion (red tea) and the slightly tannic checked. Persistent final.

Picota with maroon trim.

Clean and aromatic in the nose, with toast and minerals of the barrel first, feelings about fruit (ripe blueberries)
