Versos de Valtuille Mencía is a red wine produced by the winery Estévez Bodegas y Viñedos in Valtuille de Abajo, D.O.Bierzo.
Estévez Bodegas y Viñedos is a recent project that began after a family decided to return to their homeland to look after their heritage. A century-old heritage that comes from the first vineyards that their great-grandfather, Ramón, bought with the money he earned in Brazil.
The vineyards are located in the best wine sites of Valtuille de Abajo. They have been cared for and looked after for generations by the expert hands of the Estévez family.
Now, with the latest technological advances of a newly remodelled winery, they start a new adventure to recover the legacy of their great-grandfather, producing wines with their own character and style.
Versos de Valtuille Mencía is the first wine of the winery. A wine made from Mencía from a 6-hectare vineyard of around 90 years of age, located at 400-600 metres of altitude on clayey soils with some sand in the highest areas.
Harvesting is carried out manually, selecting the grapes in winery. They go through a cold pre-fermentation maceration for two days. The alcoholic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel deposits at a controlled temperature of approximately 20ºC. After the fermentation, they go through a short maceration. Finally, the wine is aged in foudres for 8 months. Before it is bottled, the wine is clarified and filtered.
Versos de Valtuille Mencía is a fluid, fruity and long wine. The aromas of red and wild fruits stand out. An expressive and extremely elegant wine.
