About Vilano 57 Aniversario

1957 was one of those years that leaves a mark. While the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1, initiating the space race, Europe signed the Treaty of Rome, taking the first steps towards the European Union, and the world of literature was captivated by Boris Pasternak's "Doctor Zhivago", published in Italy despite censorship in the USSR. And while the world turned with great news, in Ribera del Duero (Castilla y León) the land was writing its own story.

Indeed, in Ribera del Duero, 1957 was a vintage that makes wine enthusiasts sigh with delight. Spring brought just the right amount of rain and a mild climate that allowed the vines to develop at a leisurely pace. The summer, warm and sunny, ensured that the grapes reached perfect ripeness. That same year, Bodegas Vilano was founded, beginning a story that remains alive today. Vilano 57 is a tribute to that harvest, to tradition, and to more than six decades of passion for fine wine.

For its production, each grape of tempranillo, merlot, and cabernet sauvignon is handpicked in the vineyards of Pedrosa del Duero, where the sandy and calcareous soils provide perfect drainage and balanced nutrition, giving the wine its unique complexity. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, between 20 and 25 °C, for 8 to 10 days, allowing for the gentle extraction of aromas and the finest tannins. Afterwards, the wine spends 14 months in selected oak barrels, where it matures slowly, gaining body and structure.

To drink Vilano 57 is to experience 1957 on the palate. It is a journey that combines history, terroir, and dedication. It is toasting to those who came before, those present today, and those who will come. For some wines are not merely drunk... they are lived and remembered.
