About Yoyo Vierge Rouge

Yoyo Vierge Rouge is a red wine natural that is a coupage of Grey Grenache, Red Grenache and sometimes a little White Grenache produced by the Yo-yo winery in Languedoc-Roussillon in cooperation with Jean-François Nicq.

Yo-yo is the nickname of Laurence Manya-Krief, a former commercial director in the fashion industry who moved to the world of wine when she was 35 years old. The winery grows very old Grenache and Cariñena vines, some over a hundred years old, that are worked manually, with horses or with mules. It produces wines of medium power that are easy to drink and with a considerable base note.

The vineyards for Yoyo Vierge Rouge have an average age of 80 years and are located on granitic sand soils in the northern part of the foothills of the Sierra de la Albera. The average yield per hectare is very low, only about 20 hectolitres.

Yoyo Vierge Rouge is made by fermenting the grapes without destemming, and performing a carbonic maceration for about 3 weeks. The must is fermented with native yeasts and then the wine is aged in used barrels for 7 months.
