Abadía Retuerta Petit Verdot is a red wine crafted by the Abadía Retuerta winery in Sardón de Duero (Valladolid), DOP Abadía Retuerta.
Abadía Retuerta embarked on its journey in 1996, with vineyards planted a few years prior, in 1991 and 1994. This year marked the beginning of soil classification based on composition and altitude, allowing for tailored treatment with future vinification in mind.
The vineyards of Abadía Retuerta are situated between 700 and 850 metres above sea level, and the climate in this region is predominantly continental. Winters tend to be cold, while summers are warm, providing an ideal climate for the optimal ripening of grapes and the balance of the vine.
These conditions, combined with the cutting-edge technology of one of Europe's most advanced wineries, result in exceptional wines, capturing the essence of the terroir and the potential of each grape variety.
Abadía Retuerta Petit Verdot is a red wine made from Petit Verdot, sourced from a vineyard planted in 1991, located at an altitude of 840 metres on a distinctive terroir with sandy soil.
Following the harvest, grape selection is conducted on a sorting table. The must undergoes fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The maceration lasts for 10 days. Malolactic fermentation occurs in new French oak barrels. The ageing process extends for over a year in French and American oak barrels.
