You have likely heard of Vino Nobile at some point, but do you know the origin of this term? Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is not merely another wine from Tuscany. The word “nobile” emerged in the 15th and 16th centuries, when humanists like Poliziano and wine connoisseurs such as Sante Lancerio, sommelier to Pope Paul III, described it as a wine fit for popes and kings. It was not an official title, but rather a social acknowledgment, a way to denote that this wine stood out for its quality, elegance, and character.
This historical legacy inspired Egidio Corradi, who in 1962 decided to restore the splendour of Montepulciano's wines to its land. With a degree in Economics and Commerce and a career as an international broker between Genoa and Milan, Egidio returned to his roots and purchased two small, semi-abandoned estates in Cervognano di Montepulciano, with the vision of producing a Vino Nobile that would reflect the nobility of its land.
Later, his daughter Paola Corradi and her husband Ippolito De Ferrari brought this vision to life: they planted the first specialised vineyards, constructed the winery in old stables, and founded Poderi Boscarelli. Today, the third generation, Luca and Nicolò De Ferrari, continues to nurture each vineyard with the same dedication, ensuring that every bottle conveys the aromas, flavours, and character of Montepulciano.
Boscarelli Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva is a true masterpiece of tradition and craftsmanship. The clay soils with sandy components provide the ideal cradle for the prugnolo gentile, the local sangiovese, accompanied by colorino and sangiovese grosso. Grapes sourced from the sun-drenched vineyards around Montepulciano thrive in optimal climatic conditions. After a meticulous harvest, they are gently destemmed and undergo a controlled fermentation that preserves the wine's natural aromas and freshness.
Aging in Slavonian or French oak barrels, with capacities from 5 to 25 hectolitres, and the malolactic fermentation impart elegance and finesse. The maturation lasts between 28 and 32 months, and before being released to the market, the wine rests several months in the bottle to reach its peak expression.
Boscarelli Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva is the continuation of a legacy, a bridge between Montepulciano's past and the dedication of those who today preserve its nobility in every bottle.
