About Cosme Palacio vino de Laguardia

Cosme Palacio vino de Laguardia is a red wine made by Bodegas Palacio with the Tempranillo variety in the D.O.Ca. Rioja.

Palacio is known as a pioneer winery for introducing the bases of modern wine to the D.O.Ca. Rioja. It is run by Cosme Palacio Bermejillo, an entrepreneur who took over the family winery in 1894 to make it the most advanced in Rioja Alavesa. He is still working today with his philosophy that tradition and modernity go hand in hand.

The Cosme Palacio vino de Laguardia grapes come from old vines of over 40 years old that are planted in clay-calcareous soils at an altitude of over 600 metres above sea level. The grapes are manually collected in 15 kg boxes and the fruit is selected in the vineyard.

Once the Cosme Palacio vino de Laguardia grapes reach the winery, they are destemmed but not crushed, and then undergo a long maceration. It then ferments in stainless steel tanks with automatic temperature control, pump overs and micro-oxygenation. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels. Aging happens over 12 months in new 225-litre French oak barrels. The wine is then refined in the bottle for a minimum of 12 months before it is launched on the market.

Cosme Palacio vino de Laguardia is a red wine from the highest altitude vineyards in the winery. This is reflected in the wine’s good concentration and acidity.

2019

The Cosme Palacio Vino de Laguardia 2019 envelops us with vibrant aromas of fresh strawberries and raspberries, interwoven with hints of ripe plums and blueberries. In the background, one can discern subtle spicy nuances and the essence of the forest floor. Upon tasting, its robustness becomes apparent, offering a smooth texture and a remarkable freshness. The finish is expressive and prolonged, leaving a succulent and exceedingly pleasant sensation on the palate. This red wine stands out for its concentration and balance.
2018

Cosme Palacio Crianza 2018 is a profound red wine. Olfactorily, it is robust, presenting a broad spectrum that starts with scents of ripe red fruit (raspberry) and progresses to black licorice, spices (vanilla), and eucalyptus. On the palate, it is dynamic and effervescent, with silky tannins. It is both delicate and refined, maintaining a well-balanced profile. The palate is graced with fruity flavors. It concludes with a prolonged and lingering finish.

Cosme Palacio Crianza 2017 is a mature red wine boasting ripe red fruit aromas, hints of liquorice, and nuances of fennel. On the palate, it is robust, commanding, and graceful. This wine features a lively acidity, refined and well-aged tannins, and a prolonged finish with roasted undertones.
2015 Cosme Palacio Crianza 2015 is a concentrated red wine with intense aromas of ripe red fruits and black liquorice with a spicy and balsamic background. On the palate it is delicate, vibrant and appetising, with fruit notes and a long and broad finish.
