Al Chelo 2025 astonishes with its fruity character and unique lightness. About Al Chelo

Descendientes de J. Palacios, the venture of Álvaro Palacios and his nephew Ricardo Pérez Palacios in the Bierzo region, Castilla y León (Spain), is an ancient stone-built winery that has been restored. Their vineyards are distinguished by their mountainous slate soils and continental climate. Since its inception, the winery has become an international benchmark, producing very special wines that are fresh, fragrant, and vibrant. Thus, when they discovered the unique character of a single vineyard plot named Al Chelo, the same name as Ricardo's late mother and Álvaro's sister, it was destined that they would create a new single-vineyard wine.

Made predominantly from the star variety mencía with a small addition of white grapes, Descendientes de J. Palacios Al Chelo is a single-vineyard wine sourced from an exclusive 0.4-hectare plot with a steep north-facing slope at an altitude of 700 meters. The vines, ranging from 50 to 90 years old, are planted on laminated slate soils and cultivated organically with cover crops. In the winery, the grapes are partially destemmed and gently crushed to initiate fermentation in oak vats with periodic punch-downs.

As a result, Descendientes de J. Palacios Al Chelo is a testament to the Palacios family's legacy and passion for viticulture. A fresh and lively single-vineyard wine that reflects both the family's history and the unique terroir of Bierzo.

Descendientes de J. Palacios Al Chelo 2023 is a light and fruity red wine that captivates you from the very first sip. On the nose, it unveils intense aromas of flowers and violets, accompanied by black fruits such as blackberries and a hint of pomegranate. On the palate, it is pure and energetic, with layers of black cherry and raspberry, along with delightful notes of black liquorice. The tannins are fine, and the freshness is remarkable, culminating in a long and smooth finish.
