About El Mentridano

Wine and rock & roll have always gone well together. From joy to sorrow, love and sadness, celebration and relaxation, it is an intimate relationship that never fails. So much so that there is even a band made up of wine professionals. “The Winedrinkers” is a group of winegrowers, winemakers and even journalists from Spain, who offer their own versions of wine-inspired songs in their repertoire. One of those people is Curro Bareño. A great country man and manager of Fedellos de Couto, who is not only part of a rock & roll band, but also decided to try his luck outwith his native Ribeira Sacra. This is how he ended up in El Real de San Vicente, in Madrid and, continuing the work started by Daniel Landi of Comando G more than 20 years ago, he embarked on the Mentridana wine project with the intention of capturing the maximum freshness and liveliness of the fruit.

The result of this work is El Mentridano, a red wine made from old Garnacha vines planted at high altitude in the granitic soils of the Alberche Valley, in the Sierra de Gredos (Madrid). The grapes are harvested by hand at the optimum point of ripeness and immediately taken to the winery. There they are thoroughly selected to begin spontaneous vinification with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 7 months in French oak foudres.

Maintaining the freshness, vitality and minerality that has made Madrid’s Garnacha so famous, El Mentridano is Curro Bareño’s most personal vision. A vibrant, refreshing wine from the D.O. Méntrida that oozes rock & roll.

 

2021

El Mentridano 2021 is a smooth red wine with aromas of forest fruits, blue flower notes and mineral hints. On the palate it is sweet, juicy and broad. A medium-bodied wine with vibrant acidity, pleasant tannins and good balance from start to finish.
