About Grandes Lindes de Remelluri Jesusa Areta San Vicente de la Sonsierra

Without question, the vinicultural sphere has made tremendous strides, yet challenges regarding gender equality continue to loom. Fortunately, there are eminent female figures who have paved the way and have mitigated the difficulty of this journey. Fifty years ago, the landscape was even more daunting, as can be testified by Jesusa Areta, a septuagenarian oenologist who has devoted a significant portion of her life to her craft at the esteemed Riojan winery Remelluri. Grandes Lindes de Remelluri Jesusa Areta San Vicente de la Sonsierra is created as a tribute to her and, by extension, to all the women who have fervently and courageously dedicated their lives to viticulture and winemaking.

Part of the Lindes de Remelluri initiative, this project stems from the artisanal efforts of vintners from villages and hamlets surrounding the Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri. Specifically, Grandes Lindes de Remelluri Jesusa Areta San Vicente de la Sonsierra originates from a vineyard over a century old, situated on terraces with sandy soil, spanning merely 1.5 hectares. A blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, and Mazuelo, these grapes are cultivated as they were prior to the industrialization of winemaking, solely through artisanal means and devoid of chemical products. Following a manual harvest, the majority of the grapes are destemmed and crushed. The resulting must ferments in open wooden vats. Subsequently, the wine is aged for 14 months in smaller French oak barrels.

Highlighting the importance of preserving traditions and respecting the land, Grandes Lindes de Remelluri Jesusa Areta San Vicente de la Sonsierra is an exceptional wine that captures the essence of Jesusa Areta’s artisanal work and her passion for viticulture, making her a formidable viticulturist and a source of inspiration for both women and the wine industry at large.

Lindes de Remelluri is the result of the artisanal work of viticulturists from small towns and hamlets surrounding the Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri, who defend the best viticulture from the 18th century. A social project that values the work of lifelong viticulturists and recovers old, mountainous vineyards perched on the Sierra. A collection of 6 wines, one for each town, whose differences in soils and orientations offer us unique village wines.
