Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de San Vicente is a red wine from the DOCa Rioja crafted by Remelluri, a winery acquired by Jaime Rodríguez Salis and Amaya Hernandorena in 1967, who were responsible for reclaiming all the ancient lands lost over the years. Today, their son, Telmo Rodríguez, continues this endeavour, breathing life into a project aimed at highlighting both the terroir and the work of the viticulturists who, for decades, have contributed to the greatness of this winery. It is important to note that for many years, Remelluri produced wines with both their own grapes and those purchased from local farmers. With the arrival of Telmo Rodríguez at the family winery, around 2010, this changed as the renowned oenologist decided to produce wines exclusively with the estate's grapes (similar to practices in France). However, to avoid leaving the viticulturists he had worked with for years in the lurch, Telmo decided to create wines with distinct identities, focused on each of those plots, showcasing the richness and uniqueness of each terroir. Thus, the Lindes de Remelluri project was born, where Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de San Vicente was one of the first wines to be released.
The climate in Rioja Alavesa is Mediterranean, with a significant influence from the Cantabrian Sea, tempered by the Sierra de Cantabria, which acts as a natural barrier. There is less rainfall, more aridity, and less temperature variation than in other areas of Rioja. This results in a late ripening of the grapes.
Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de San Vicente is a blend of tempranillo, garnacha, and other varieties sourced from vineyards of some of the finest viticulturists in the villages near the winery, Labastida and San Vicente de la Sonsierra. For years, these grapes have been used for the production of Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de San Vicente. The vineyards are situated on poor limestone terraces formed by sandstones and marls. The soil is clay-limestone in nature.
In terms of viticulture, traditional methods are employed. Harvesting is done manually in 20 kg boxes. Once the harvest is complete, a selection of the bunches is conducted both in the field and on the sorting table. Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de San Vicente ferments using indigenous yeasts and undergoes 12 months of ageing in French oak barrels and vats.
