The esteemed Spanish oenologist and viticulturist, Telmo Rodríguez, established his own winery in 1994 with the vision of crafting wines that embody the authenticity of Spain's indigenous grape varieties and its original landscapes and terroirs. His passion for viticulture has led him to undertake various projects across different regions of the country, where he has dedicated himself to rescuing and revitalising forgotten vineyards. Following this enriching experience, Telmo returns to Remelluri, the family winery, with the aim of rediscovering and highlighting the true essence of Rioja. His return to his roots signifies a renewed commitment to quality and tradition, with the desire to share the genuine expression of this prestigious Spanish wine region with the world. From this philosophy emerges Lindes de Remelluri, a project that seeks to pay tribute to the artisanal work of the winegrowers from the villages and hamlets surrounding the Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri. Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Ábalos, as Telmo Rodríguez himself describes it, is the “cherry on the cake” of this unique collection.
Originating from 3 hectares of vineyard located in a mountainous landscape in one of the most beautiful and distinctive villages of Rioja, Ábalos, Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Ábalos is a blend crafted from the indigenous varieties tempranillo, garnacha, graciano, and other red varieties. The vines, aged between 40 and 90 years, are planted on clay-limestone marl soils at an altitude of 494-528 metres and are cultivated using biodynamic practices. When the grapes reach their optimal ripeness, they are harvested manually in small boxes and immediately transported to the winery. There, the grapes are selected, destemmed, and crushed, fermenting in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts. Afterwards, the wine is aged and refined for 12 months in barrels of various sizes.
Being one of the last villages defined by the depth of the Sonsierra, Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Ábalos showcases the finest viticulture of this Riojan territory, both in cultivation methods and in wine production. A genuine village wine, restored by the new generation.
