About Bodega Cerrón La Calera del Escaramujo

La Calera del Escaramujo is an organic red wine crafted by Bodega Cerrón using the monastrell variety in the Murcia region under the DO Jumilla (Spain).
 
Bodega Cerrón is a small family project located in the municipality of Fuente-Álamo, Albacete, with the primary aim of reviving the winemaking tradition that dates back to 1895. To achieve this, they work with abandoned pre-phylloxera vines and terroirs situated in transitional mountainous areas with shadier microclimates. 
 
La Calera del Escaramujo originates from 1.67 hectares situated at 960 meters above sea level, planted on calcareous and rocky soils. These vineyards were neglected for 25 years and have held organic certification since the early nineties. The harvest is conducted manually at the optimal moment of ripeness. 
 
In the winery, the grapes of La Calera del Escaramujo undergo cold maceration before embarking on a lengthy fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, the wine ages in used 500-litre oak barrels for over a year. Finally, the wine is bottled unfiltered. 
 
Made from the flagship variety of Jumilla, La Calera del Escaramujo is poised to become a distinguished representative of southeastern Spain. Elegance, finesse, and austerity.
