About Pittacum

Pittacum is a red wine produced in D.O. Bierzo by the Bodegas Pittacum winery.

It is a mono-varietal wine of the autochthonous Mencía variety, from old vines spread over 200 different plots with sloping soils, good drainage and a great deal of depth that help a proper ripening.

Harvesting is by hand, and the grapes are transferred to the winery in small boxes of only 12 Kg capacity, avoiding breakage in the grapes as much as possible before arriving at the cellar. Once in the cellar, the bunches pass through a selection table.

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for 15 days at a temperature of 25ºC.
After these 15 days a bleed is carried out and it is kept in the tanks for a month before being transferred to American and French oak barrels where it is aged for 8 months.

Once the aging is finished, Pittacum is bottled and then stands for 2 years before coming on the market.
A great, highly expressive wine of the D.O. Bierzo.
