About Oxer Suzzane

Suzzane is a red wine from the D.O.C La Rioja produced by Oxer Belastegi in Laguardia, Alava.

Oxer Bastegieta is a winemaker who began to produce Chacolí at the family winery in Kortezubi, a small Basque town close to the Urdaibai natural park. He first moved to Rioja to study a masters in oenology and viticulture, where he fell in love with the landscapes of the Rioja Alavesa. He then set up residence in Laguardia in 2009 where he began to inspect the vineyards and began to produce wines from the zone.

Suzzane is another of his wines that comes from 3 small Garnacha vineyards situated in the town of Cárdenas, close to Nájera and home to calcareous-clay soils. The vineyards used are over 105 years old, span across 2.5 hectares and have low yields of around 1000kg per hectare. The vineyards are cultivated and worked organically.

Suzzane ferments in stainless steel tanks using its own yeasts. Following this the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged in new (500litre) French oak barrels. 

2019

Suzzane 2019 is an exquisitely refined red wine. The bouquet is reminiscent of a medley of fruit-laden fragrances. On the palate, it captivates with its velvety texture, succulent acidity, and supple tannins. It unfurls flavors of cherry, bramble, plum, cinnamon, cocoa, tobacco, and violet. The finish is enduring, with a memorable aftertaste.
