About Oxer Manttoni

In Basque traditions, Manttoni conjures an elf symbolising rebirth and renewal, a representation of the connection with the earth and the enchantment of the ancient. Inspired by this figure, the young winemaker Oxer Bastegieta has chosen this name to christen one of his most personal wines, a red that reflects both his love for tradition and his innovative vision of the wine world.

Oxer Manttoni is crafted from the indigenous tempranillo variety, complemented by a meticulously curated blend of garnacha, mazuelo, maturana tinta, and graciano. The grapes hail from a unique vineyard encircling Oxer's home, a viticultural "garden" that combines century-old plants and plots, situated in the cool areas of Rioja Alavesa, within the DOCa Rioja. In the winery, fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in used 1,000-litre French oak vats, followed by 10 months of ageing in 600-litre French and German oak barrels, all to preserve the essence of the grapes and allow the wine to narrate its own story.

Oxer Manttoni invites one to rediscover the magic of the familiar, of what is nurtured with love and patience. It is a wine that celebrates who we are and who we can become, much like that elf ascending to new heights.
