About The Sadie Family Skurfberg

The Sadie Family Skurfberg is an ecological, barrel-aged white wine made with the Chenin Blanc variety by The Sadie Family in Swartland, Coastal Region (South Africa).

In 1999 Eben Sadie founded The Sadie Family project in the Swartland wine region. One of the country’s promising new wineries, they produce very honest wines, with minimal intervention and with a focus on the terroir and the grape. He is also part of other initiatives in other parts of the world like Terroir al Límit in Priorat (Spain).

The Sadie Family Skurfberg comes from vines aged over 80 years old. A hectare and a half of vineyards on soils made up of iron-rich decomposed sandstone from the mountains. This is where the name Skurfberg comes from, meaning rigid mountain. They practice organic farming without using any herbicides, pesticides or chemicals that can impair the natural balance of the terroir. Instead they use non-harmful organic products.

Once in the winery The Sadie Family Skurfberg is made under a philosophy of minimal intervention. To do this, the pressed must ferments spontaneously with native yeasts and then the wine ages for 18 months in French oak barrels. It is bottled without refining or filtering.

The Sadie Family Skurfberg is a bold and mineral wine created through the bold work of Eben Sadie, a fearless winemaker who is committed to the terroirs in unique Cape Town vineyard.
2018 The Sadie Family Skurfberg 2018 is a white wine with aromas of tropical and citrus fruits and earthy and mineral notes. On the palate it is concentrated, rich and balanced. It reveals a fine acidity and a long and pleasant finish.
