About Timo Mayer Close Planted

If there’s one wine from the Yarra Valley which is truly sought after, it’s Timo Mayer Close Planted.

The ultimate expression of Pinot Noir, which some go so far as to call wild, is the main reason why consumers and wine lovers rush to get their hands on a bottle on its release. The creator of this magic is Timo Mayer, the German winemaker based in Australia, specifically in the region of Victoria (Melbourne).

Since he arrived there with his wife Rhonda Ferguson some 20 years ago, this winemaker has managed to renew this region’s winemaking tradition, making wines with minimal intervention, aware that quality is achieved in the field and not in the cellar. Specifically, Pinot Noir grows on a small estate 8 km south of Healesville where the vines have to compete for resources with other plants, producing grapes of great quality and potency. To safeguard these standards, the grapes are obviously harvested by hand.

As for vinification, Timo Mayer Close Planted is fermented with whole bunches (including stems) in open vats and aged for 11 months in used foudres.
