About Viña Pomal Gran Reserva

Viña Pomal Gran Reserva is a red wine from the DOCa Rioja crafted by Bodegas Bilbaínas. It is a blend of tempranillo with a hint of graciano.

The grapes that give birth to Viña Pomal Gran Reserva come from predominantly limestone and gravelly soils. The low fertility of the land results in clusters with more concentrated flavours. The vines are grown in a bush-trained system.

Viña Pomal Gran Reserva undergoes a traditional vinification process. Once at the winery, the grapes are destemmed and crushed before undergoing a prolonged maceration.

A malolactic fermentation is subsequently carried out. Before transferring the wine into barrels, several rackings and a clarification phase are performed.

Viña Pomal Gran Reserva ages for approximately three years in American oak barrels. During the first 24 months, a couple of rackings are conducted to allow the wine to naturally clarify.

Finally, Viña Pomal Gran Reserva spends an additional three years resting in the bottle before it is ready to be savoured.

Viña Pomal, established in 1911, is the flagship brand of Bodegas Bilbaínas, the oldest bottling company in La Rioja. It is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious wineries in the denomination of origin.

2011 Viña Pomal Gran Reserva 2011 is a mature, complex and refined red wine. Once again, this vintage distinctly shows the long stay in barrels, with elegant toasted notes in perfect harmony with the candied red fruit aromas and the mineral notes of the terroir.
