About Viña Pomal Reserva

There are wines that are undeniably appealing. No room for doubt. One such wine is Viña Pomal Reserva.
 
A true classic from the DOCa Rioja, crafted by Bodegas Bilbaínas, this single-varietal tempranillo exemplifies the most elegant and traditional side of northeastern Spain, specifically from the town of Haro, a location with one of the highest concentrations of wineries where wine is more of a religion than a trade. Here, approximately 8 kilometres from the village, lies Finca Pomal, the 90-hectare vineyard that lends its name to this wine, where Viña Pomal Reserva is cultivated. Here, between the Ebro and Tirón rivers, old vines thrive on a diverse array of soils, predominantly limestone, ferrous, and alluvial, which are poor and of low fertility, compelling the vine to make great efforts to survive, always yielding its best. To this, add the moderate rainfall and harsh winters of the region, occasionally with frosts, where the contrast between day and night is quite pronounced. 
 
Viña Pomal Reserva is harvested manually and taken to the winery where it is destemmed and crushed. Once the must is obtained, Viña Pomal Reserva is transferred to stainless steel tanks, where both the alcoholic and malolactic fermentation will occur. Following this, Viña Pomal Reserva undergoes post-fermentation maceration, where the wine remains in contact with the grape skins until it's time to separate the liquid from the solids and rack Viña Pomal Reserva into American oak barrels for over a year of ageing. But that's not the end! After this period, Viña Pomal Reserva is bottled and allowed to rest for a minimum of 24 months in the bottle, until it's ready for sale.

2013 Viña Pomal Reserva 2013 is a mature, round and balanced wine. This vintage reveals an excellent balance between maturity and freshness. On the nose, aromas of ripe red fruit stand out with refined toasted notes from its ageing. In the mouth, it is silky, pleasant and very long.
2010 On the palate it is soft, round and balanced. This wine has body and a pleasant acidity.

2008 In the palate, this is a clean, crispy, classic and well bodied red wine, with a good acidity and a ripe and very pleasant tannic sensation. Long and persistent finish.
