About La Vicalanda Reserva

Bodegas Bilbaínas, one of the pioneering companies in the marketing of wines in the DOCa. Rioja, owns over 250 hectares of vineyards. Among these, there are particularly special and intriguing vineyards, such as La Vicalanda, a small estate where La Vicalanda Reserva is crafted, a single-varietal tempranillo with several years of ageing.

Specifically, La Vicalanda is situated about 2 km from the Barrio de La Estación in Haro, where Bodegas Bilbaínas maintains its facilities. In this locale, the soils are calcareous and stony, poor, with very low yields, yet the vines produce grapes of exceptional quality. These vines are cultivated sustainably, and La Vicalanda Reserva is only produced in the most outstanding vintages. To achieve this, the vineyard is meticulously monitored, always seeking the perfect moment of ripeness.

After the harvest, La Vicalanda Reserva is taken to the winery, where it is destemmed and crushed. Once the harvest paste is obtained, La Vicalanda Reserva is left to macerate for several weeks, allowing the must to remain in contact with the skins. After this period, La Vicalanda Reserva is transferred to the alcoholic fermentation tanks, where malolactic fermentation also occurs. Finally, 14 months in barrel and another 24 months in bottle provide the finishing touch that La Vicalanda Reserva needs to achieve its full potential.
