Viña Pomal Reserva 106 Barricas 2020 is a red wine that captivates at first sight with its cherry hue and garnet rim. On the nose, it reveals an intriguing aromatic spectrum, blending spicy notes of liquorice with the richness of black fruits such as blackberries and plums. Violets and fennel contribute a touch of freshness, while the mineral undertone intertwines with subtle hints of chocolate and delicate woods like cedar. Viña Pomal Reserva 106 Barricas is a red wine from the DO.Ca. La Rioja crafted by Bodegas Bilbaínas. This wine is a blend of the tempranillo, garnacha, and graciano grape varieties.
 
The grapes that give birth to Viña Pomal Reserva 106 Barricas originate from a vineyard located merely two kilometres from the winery, near the Ebro River as it passes through the town of Haro. This proximity facilitates the swift transportation of the grapes to the winery post-harvest.
 
The estate features various ecosystems, depending on soil type and sun exposure of each section. For vine cultivation, a combination of traditional viticulture and precision viticulture is employed. The aim: to obtain the highest quality grapes possible.
 
Once selected at the winery, the grapes for Viña Pomal Reserva 106 Barricas undergo fermentation with indigenous yeasts at temperatures between 28°C and 30°C. This is followed by a maceration period lasting approximately 25 days.
 
Before bottling, Viña Pomal Reserva 106 Barricas ages for 20 months in oak barrels—84% American and the remaining 16% French. A third of these barrels are new. During this phase, several rackings are performed manually to clarify the wine.
 
Viña Pomal Reserva 106 Barricas rests for an additional two years in the bottle before it is ready to be savoured.
