Baigorri Finca Las Navas Tempranillo 2021 presents an intense cherry-red hue with captivating violet undertones. On the nose, it beguiles with a potent presence of ripe fruits such as plums and blackberries, intertwined with the essence of dried herbs and a hint of oak that adds depth. About Baigorri Finca Las Navas Tempranillo

Wine has always been intertwined with the world of art and culture because, beyond being a mere beverage, it embodies an expression of region, history, and human passion. It is therefore unsurprising that, on occasion, architecture takes centre stage in the winery, becoming a tangible reflection of this philosophy. A perfect example is Baigorri, located in Samaniego, the heart of Rioja Alavesa, designed in 2022 by architect Iñaki Aspiazu Iza alongside a group of Basque entrepreneurs. However, its story began in 2007 when Pedro Martínez Hernández acquired the estate and set in motion the vision that today materialises in a 200-square-metre glass cube, seamlessly integrated into the landscape. The modernity and transparency of its architecture astonish at first glance and mirror the same precision and care that are transferred to the crafting of its wines.

Among its treasures is Baigorri Finca Las Navas Tempranillo, a wine born from a massal selection of the tempranillo grape in a nearly 4-hectare plot with a north-south orientation and clay-limestone soil, typical of the region. The harvest is done manually, and selection is carried out grape by grape, ensuring only the finest reach the winery. The vinification honours tradition. That is, 500-litre French oak vats receive the destemmed grapes but with the whole berry, where they undergo a 30-day alcoholic fermentation with gravity remontage, followed by malolactic fermentation in wood and ageing on its lees for 4 to 8 months.

The result is an elegant and expressive tempranillo, with the strength of the terroir and the delicacy that only extreme care in vineyard and winery can offer. A wine that in every sip reflects the same harmony perceived in the modern and transparent lines of the winery, where architecture and wine meet in perfect harmony.
