About Borsao Zarihs

Borsao Zarihs is a single-varietal red wine made from syrah by Bodegas Borsao in Campo de Borja.

Bodegas Borsao, the cooperative that manages over a third of the vineyards planted in the small region of Campo de Borja (province of Zaragoza), traces its origins back to 1958. However, it was with the advent of the new century and the collaboration of the esteemed New Zealand winemaker Chris Ringland that the winery began to gain recognition in the international market.

Although the most cultivated variety in Campo de Borja is garnacha, Borsao Zarihs is crafted from syrah. Hence its name, as Zarihs is Shiraz spelled backwards. These vines were planted over 16 years ago at the foot of the Moncayo mountain, and thanks to the expertise of winemakers Chris Ringland and José Luis Chueca, they have been able to maximise the effects of the soil, sun, and cierzo on the grapes.

Once the grapes enter the winery, they undergo maceration for 4 to 5 days, and alcoholic fermentation is carried out over 20 days in stainless steel at a controlled temperature of 22°C to 26°C. Afterwards, 40% of Borsao Zarihs is aged in American oak barrels for a year, while the remaining 60% is kept in stainless steel.

Borsao Zarihs is a straightforward wine that is representative of Campo de Borja, offering excellent value for money.

2019 Borsao Zarihs 2019 is a red wine with a seductive aroma of blackberries tinged with notes of sweet vanilla and delicate smoky nuances. As it oxygenates, dark chocolate and espresso also appear. On the palate it is silky with pleasant volume. A red wine with a delicious fruity presence (blackberries and plums), soft acidity and pleasant persistence.

Borsao Zarihs 2016 is a richly aromatic red wine. The bouquet is robust, featuring hints of chocolate, oak, blackberry, candied fruits, and savory meaty notes. On the palate, it presents a spicy profile, infused with smoky nuances, dark chocolate, and deep cherry flavors. It possesses well-rounded, mature tannins and demonstrates a lingering finish. 
2015 Borsao Zarihs 2015 is a red wine with aromas of blackberries and vanilla, and notes of chocolate. On the palate it is juicy and structured, with memories of black fruit and coffee.
