If Fernando Mora, master of wine and founder of Bodegas Frontonio, stands out for anything, it is for knowing how to amplify and expand the qualities hidden in the triangle formed by the DOs of Campo de Borja, Cariñena and Calatayud, in Aragón (Spain). And this is shown in each of his wines. Creations whose names Microcósmico, Supersónico, Telescópico, Psicodélico... suggest that each of them goes beyond ordinary limits. Exploring with local varieties, seeking the maximum expression of the terroir and using ancestral winemaking techniques, his winery has become one of the most interesting and promising in the Aragon region, and has contributed to the rebirth of quality viticulture in the area.
Located in the region of Valdejalón, in the province of Zaragoza, which is marked by the flow of the Jalón River, this project offers wines that never fail to capture interest. Frontonio Psicodélico is a red wine made from a blend of local grapes such as garnacha, macabeo, robal, provecho or cribatinaja. Vines with an average age of 60 years planted in a 4 hectare site with slate, quartzite and clay soils at an altitude of 650 metres above sea level. The work is carried out in an environmentally-friendly manner at all times and the grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes at the optimum point of ripeness. Once in the cellar, the grapes are carefully crushed and fermentation begins over 40 days in cement tanks with native yeasts and daily cap plunging. The wine is then aged in 300- and 500-litre barrels for 12 months before being bottled.
The result is Frontonio Psicodélico, a very small production that reveals an almost unexplored region. A fresh, smooth and somewhat rustic wine made with local varieties that are unconventional, for enjoying at an extraordinary level.
