About Las Alas de Frontonio La Tejera

Las Alas de Frontonio La Tejera is a single-varietal red wine from Aragón crafted with the garnacha and macabeo grape varieties by the Frontonio winery.

Fernando Mora MW and Mario López are the masterminds behind this winery located in the Aragonese town of Épila. The project began taking shape in 2008, and its name, Frontonio, is inspired by the ancient legend of Saint Frontonio. Despite being beheaded by the Romans and his head being thrown downstream, the oral tradition of Épila recounts that the saint's head was miraculously found upstream. Similarly, against the current, this trio of entrepreneurs has launched a limited production of microvinifications crafted in a small garage. A true miracle based on recovering and respecting small, century-old vineyard plots.

Las Alas de Frontonio La Tejera originates from the oldest vineyards in the Valdejalón region (Zaragoza). These centenary vines yield minimal outputs through traditional agriculture. Moreover, all fieldwork is entirely manual, aiming to anticipate the harvest by delaying the cycle with late pruning and seeking cluster shading.

In the production of Las Alas de Frontonio La Tejera, a faithful adherence to tradition is maintained. Variable proportions of stems are used to add freshness to the wine, and fermentation occurs at relatively low temperatures, between 22 and 24°C. Finally, it ages for 14 months in large wooden vats.

Las Alas de Frontonio La Tejera is a red wine born in an exceptional setting of old vineyards where garnacha and macabeo transform from rustic to smooth and light. The result is a V3 wine, equivalent to a French Grand Cru.
