About Viña Pomal Selección 500

In days gone by, in the DOCa. Rioja, wine was crafted using bocoyes. These barrels, with a capacity exceeding 500 litres, enabled merchants to embark on lengthy voyages without disrupting the extensive ageing periods of the wine. Now, a century later, this technique is revived in Viña Pomal Selección, a red wine distinguished by the elegance and uniqueness of its maturation. 
 
The Tempranillo and Garnacha are the two grape varieties employed in the production of Viña Pomal Selección. Specifically, these grapes flourish in a proprietary vineyard, spanning 120 hectares, which the winery owns approximately 2 km from the Barrio de La Estación de Haro, in Rioja Alta, where this pioneering company in the region maintains its facilities. Generally, this area is renowned for its diverse soils, where clay and lime merge with alluvial deposits. 
 
Each of the varieties of Viña Pomal Selección is vinified separately, in a traditional manner, adhering to the same steps that dictated the rhythms of yesteryear. Viña Pomal Selección arrives at the winery, is crushed, and left to macerate. Viña Pomal Selección ferments with stems in stainless steel tanks and is then transferred to the bocoyes where it will rest for about 15 months. 
 
Each bottle of Viña Pomal Selección is a journey to the origins of Rioja, where time, patience, and wood were the true custodians of the wine. A modern reinterpretation of a centuries-old tradition.
