About LaRural Parellada

The emergence of wine cooperatives signalled a paradigm shift in wine production. The pooling of collaboration and resources enticed numerous producers, leading many wine houses to embrace this collective model over continuing their independent operations. Consequently, this movement, while bolstering production through joint efforts and resource consolidation, also resulted in a decline of individual wineries. In the case of the Padró family, based in the town of Santes Creus in the Alt Camp region of Catalonia, of the five generations that have worked their vineyards, none produced wine between 1920 and 2018. They solely sold their grapes. However, since Xavi and Andreu Padró took the helm, they not only decided to practice 100% organic agriculture but also dared to experiment with their own natural wines. A bold venture that, under the name LaRural, is garnering a reputation in the circuits of natural viticulture.

One of the emblematic wines that represents their approach is LaRural Parellada. An orange wine from the indigenous parellada variety, produced from 40-year-old vines planted in clay-limestone soil at an altitude of 337 meters. The grapes are organically grown with ecological certification, and the harvest is carried out manually at the optimal point of ripeness. Once at the winery, the grapes are selected, destemmed, and crushed, then macerated with their skins for two weeks in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts, followed by a period of aging on the lees. Finally, the wine is bottled unfiltered, unfined, and without the addition of sulfites.

By embracing organic agriculture and challenging conventional norms, LaRural has become a beacon of natural wines. The iconic LaRural Parellada, an orange wine, reflects their commitment. A pure and bold expression of the family's vinicultural tradition's resurgence, steering towards a horizon of sustainability and authenticity.

 

2022

LaRural Parellada 2022 presents as a rejuvenating orange wine, suffused with aromatics reminiscent of the Mediterranean, intermingling citrus and herbaceous notes. Upon tasting, it reveals a bracing initiation, underpinned by a saline nuance and pronounced acidity. The finish is extensive, enduring, and soothingly mineral.
