Abadía Retuerta Pago Negralada is a red wine made by the winery Abadía Retuerta in Sardón de Duero (Valladolid), in Castilla y León and, since the 2017 vintage, it has been labeled with the DOP Abadía Retuerta.
Abadía Retuerta begins its journey in 1996, with vineyards planted a few years before, in 1991 and 1994. This year, they started to classify the soils according to their composition and altitude, and they started treating them individually with the subsequent vinification in mind.
The vineyards of Abadía Retuerta are planted between 700 and 850 metres of altitude. The climate in this area is mostly continental, winters are usually cold and summers are hot, the perfect weather for the suitable ripening of the grape and the balance of the vines.
These conditions, together with the best technology from one of the most advanced wineries in Europe, result in excellent wines, with all the character of the terroir and the potential of each variety.
Abadía Retuerta Pago Negralada is a red wine made with Tempranillo, from Pago Negralada, a vineyard planted on slopes facing north at 850 metres of altitude, on gravel and sand soils.
After the harvest, the grapes are selected on a selection table. The must ferments in small stainless steel deposits. After the maceration, the wine rests and ages in new French oak barrels for 17 months.
