Old vines, dating back over 70 years, from one of the freshest vineyards of the DO Bierzo are the origin of the red wine Castro Ventosa Valtuille El Rapolao.
Formerly known as Herederos de Rosaura López Fuente, the current Castro Ventosa winery shares this little slice of paradise with other winemakers in the area where the terroir is located. In the right hands, all of this magic is transformed into a true marvel. And in this case, the responsibility falls to Raúl Pérez and his family, who have been involved in winemaking since way back in 1752. The clay soils and continental climate, with its Atlantic influence, are the fundamental elements that shape the centuries-old vines that give life to Castro Ventosa Valtuille El Rapolao.
Specifically, El Rapolao is known as having the coolest climate, where grapes fetch the highest price in the whole of the D.O. Bierzo. And Raul Perez knows how to work this outstanding quality to perfection, always using manual methods that respect the tradition. All of this includes manual harvesting, which is carried out with great care to ensure the bunches are kept whole. Thus all the grapes make their way directly to the fermentation barrels, where the yeasts begin to ferment. Both the skins and the wine are kept macerating for about 60 days, after which they are transferred to used French oak barrels where they will remain for a further 12 months.
Castro Ventosa Valtuille El Rapolao is one of the wines of unique origin, both in terms of location and vineyard, that is developed by this family. As the saying goes: “Sharing is caring”. But don’t take too long to get yours – the Castro Ventosa Valtuille El Rapolao bottles sell like hot cakes!
