About Ederra Reserva

If there exist any wineries with tradition in Spain, it is Bodegas Bilbaínas. Established in 1859 in the heart of Rioja Alta, within the Barrio de Haro, these wineries have indeed had ample time to fill their history and memories with anecdotes and curiosities. The excellence and quality of their wines have earned them numerous accolades, such as being appointed Supplier to the Spanish Royal Household in 1925. With this title began a well-established relationship with the Spanish monarchy, with Bodegas Bilbaínas bottles becoming the favourites of many kings. Allegedly, Alfonso XIII's preferred choice was Ederra Reserva, a wine he consumed daily.

Ederra Reserva is a red wine crafted from Tempranillo grapes cultivated in a selection of proprietary vineyards owned by Bodegas Bilbaínas in Rioja Alta. In this location, the vines thrive on clay-limestone soil, with low fertility, under the influence of the Atlantic climate (cold winters, mild summers, and moderate rainfall).

Once the grapes are harvested, Ederra Reserva undergoes destemming and is left to macerate for approximately 15 days before fermentation in stainless steel tanks. From there, it moves to American oak barrels where Ederra Reserva will rest for about 18 months. After bottling, Ederra Reserva will remain for at least another two years in the bottle.

A century later, Ederra Reserva continues to captivate palates with elegance and quality. It is no coincidence that this wine was the king's favourite…

2017 Ederra Reserva 2017 is a red wine that clearly expresses the traditional characteristics of a Rioja Tempranillo. Aromas of licorice and black fruits accompanied by notes of vanilla and toast from the aging process. The palate reflects the character of its years of aging, with a pleasant and elegant mouthfeel and tannins rounded by the passage of time. A silky red wine, with a long finish and persistent aftertaste.
2016

Ederra Reserva 2016 is a rich and fruit-forward red. On the nose, it is invigorating, with an aromatic bouquet of fruit, floral notes, and spices (cinnamon and clove). On the palate, it is approachable and velvety, culminating in a friendly, extensive, and lingering finish.

2013 Ederra Reserva 2013 is a robust, well-structured, and sophisticated red wine. This vintage reveals its aromatic potential with remarkable clarity, exuding scents of dark fruit at the forefront, underpinned by the toasted nuances of its maturation. It offers a delightful palate entry, culminating in a prolonged and tenacious finish.
