About Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Salinillas de Buradón

Water is life, and in Salinillas de Buradón, located in the Rioja Alavesa region of the province of Álava (Basque Country), this truth is well understood. Situated next to the Granja de Remelluri, a prestigious family winery in Rioja, this hamlet derives its name from the significant saline spring that has historically shaped trade routes for transporting Rioja wine to northern markets. This long-standing winemaking tradition is now celebrated by Telmo Rodríguez in Lindes de Remelluri, a collection of village wines (with Salinillas de Buradón being one of them) that restores the prominence and identity of longstanding viticulturists.
 
Crafted from 4.5 hectares of vineyards planted on soils of highly porous quartz salts combined with bright red ferric clay and blue marl, it is this unique soil, uncommon in Rioja, that gives rise to Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Salinillas de Buradón. This is a blend of tempranillo with a small proportion of garnacha and other native varieties. Vines aged 30 to 50 years, situated at an altitude of 563-578 metres, cultivated under the principles of biodynamic viticulture. Harvesting is done by hand at the optimal moment of ripeness and swiftly transported to the winery. There, vinification follows traditional practices, fermenting in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts and subsequently ageing in barrels of various sizes for 12 months.

Given that Salinillas is located at the northernmost edge of the Basque sub-designation of Rioja Alavesa, with a strong influence from the cool Atlantic climate, Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Salinillas de Buradón is a limited production village wine with excellent tension and strong minerality. Upon tasting, one is greeted by pronounced tannins that lend a robust texture, while an intense mineral streak becomes apparent.
