About Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Rivas de Tereso

Did you know that in La Rioja it is quite common to find wines that "garnachean"? But do you know what it means? This concept, rooted in winemaking tradition, is linked to the percentage of garnacha in the wine. It emerged as a popular way to identify wines with a more fragrant and floral profile. So much so that they were even presented differently: while wines with a higher percentage of tempranillo were bottled in Bordeaux bottles (high shoulders), those that "garnachean" were bottled in Burgundy bottles (low shoulders). Lindes de Remelluri, the project created by the prestigious family winery Remelluri, adopts this and many more practices with the aim of reviving 18th-century viticulture and highlighting the importance of the work of vintners before industrialisation. Under the name Lindes de Remelluri, it presents a collection of village wines from the vineyards of the hamlets surrounding its estate Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri.

One of them, Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Rivas de Tereso, hails from a small mountainous hamlet adjacent to Remelluri, whose vineyards, situated at an altitude of 634-702 metres, are up to 90 years old. Vines of tempranillo, garnacha, and other indigenous varieties planted in clay-limestone soils with abundant stoniness and cultivated according to biodynamic practices. Once the grapes reach their optimal ripeness, they are hand-harvested and immediately transported to the winery. There, the vinification is carried out in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts, and then the wine remains for 12 months in barrels of various volumes, where it is refined until bottling.

Presented in the distinctive Burgundy bottle, Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Rivas de Tereso encapsulates the legacy of generations of vintners. A village wine that, as the old Riojans would say, "garnachea" and enjoys all the essence of this elevated hamlet of San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
