The notion of a frontier is often linked with separation and boundaries. However, when we speak of borders, the term takes on a deeper meaning: it not only marks a boundary but also connects territories, people, and traditions. In the case of Lindes de Remelluri, these borders are much more than a mere geographic demarcation. They represent a bond between the lands of the Granja de Remelluri and the estates of neighbouring winegrowers, who contribute their effort and dedication to create exceptional wines. Owned by the Rodríguez family since 1967, it was in 2009 that the renowned producer Telmo Rodríguez took the helm of the project, highlighting the significance of these borders. Not only as physical boundaries but as a historical testament to the frontiers that, as early as the High Middle Ages, were crucial in shaping territories. This approach has enabled this great winemaker to craft a series of wines that honour their origin, history, and legacy.
One of them, Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Labastida, comes from 28 plots situated between 440 and 710 metres in altitude in the village of Labastida, in the Basque Country (Spain), and is the result of meticulous care of 14.1 hectares of vineyards with an average age of 65 years. Vines primarily of garnacha, tempranillo, and graciano are cultivated on limestone terraces and clay-limestone soils, reflecting the spirit of a unique terroir in the heart of La Rioja. The harvest, conducted manually in boxes, allows for a rigorous selection of the grapes, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts, respecting the purity and authenticity of its origin. Finally, the process is completed with several months of aging in oak barrels of different sizes, where the wine acquires complexity and elegance.
Considering that borders symbolize the collaboration between different lands and the people who work them, Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Labastida is more than a wine. It is a tribute to the winegrowers, the lands, and the traditions that make it possible, and a genuine expression of the connection between nature and excellence.
